First celebrated by the United States on April 22, 1970, Earth Day’s purpose is to raise awareness of environmental concerns. Since becoming a globally renowned moment In 1990, Earth Day is recognized as the world’s largest secular observance with over 190 countries engaged and more than one billion people participating to mark the holiday annually (History, n.d.).

Earth Day 2023

The 2023 Earth Day theme is “Invest in our planet.” Non-profit EarthDay.org has six areas of focus this year:

  • Climate literacy
  • Ending plastics
  • Planting trees
  • Voting for the earth
  • Global cleanup
  • Sustainable fashion

On EarthDay.org, everyone can view a global event map and filter to find an Earth Day event near them.

ProTecht® celebrates Earth Day

Members of the ProTecht® Team celebrate Earth Day in a number of ways, including spending more time in nature. Their sustainability goals for the year include spending more time researching products before purchasing, buying apparel that uses sustainable finishes or fabrics, reducing air conditioner use, and traveling more by public transport than personal car. In suggesting tips for how all of us can be more sustainable, the team encourages trying to increase the life cycle of your items, being creative when necessary.

Earth Day is an important reminder of the need for all to be environmentally aware. We can all make a difference for the earth as we make sustainable choices on both personal and professional levels.
